We are visiting our daughter here. We love the city, they have the best croissants. A bit chilly in the winter which makes the hot chocolate taste even better. There is so much to see and do. I even had a beaver tail which I have been missing for 8 years. The French character of the city gives it a great vibe. Prices for real estate are crazy. Looking forward to coming back when its warmer. Sure is a lot colder than Alabama.

That's nice that you like it and that you're finding there is so much to see and do, but I'm confused about your presence in Canada. Is your daughter dying? Non-essential foreign visitors and sight-seeing are not allowed in Canada right now but there is more than one of you visiting your daughter and sight-seeing in the city, so I'm curious about how you got permission to enter into the country in the first place?
The border is more than 3,000 miles long, and most of it isn't really monitored. One can just walk across it. Whether that is okay or not is the matter for another topic, but I doubt America will invest in a wall to keep that from happening. I seriously doubt Canada will either. They really monitor who crosses it at official crossing points only.

These days it's more monitored than one might think. There are sensors and cameras even in the unpopulated sections of the Canada-US border.
Yes you can probably still get across it undetected if you really try hard enough, but somehow I doubt a nice middle aged couple from Alabama visiting their daughter in Ottawa is going to trek through the woods of northern NY or VT and into Quebec in a clandestine way.
Any driveable crossing (even dirt or farm roads) is secured and monitored.
My wife is a Canadian citizen so we are allowed to visit immediate family.
