Hi - We've been looking at modulars for some time now. On Rt. 6 by Viewmont Mall, there's Shorten Homes that has over a dozen or so homes you can visit, from many companies. About 10 minutes away off Keyser Ave, is Simplex homes. They manufacture the homes right there and have a contracting company that will work with you when you're ready to go. We personally liked the quality of Simplex better, plus they can do everything includiing property clearning, garages, decks, etc. At Shorten, there were homes we liked, but they don't do garages, so that needs to be purchased elsewhere or custom built by someone else. There's also a modular manufacturer located in Moosic, Signaure Custom Homes, but we haven't looked at theirs yet. You can google any of these and find their websites. Hope it helps.

Westchester Modular does good work. They do a good amount of business in my area. I have been inside one of them and I couldn't even tell it was a modular home until I was told that.

Whatever you do, stay away from Shorten Homes in Dickson City, PA. We had a home built by them. It was put on the foundation back in September. It's the beginning of December and are still waiting for someone from there to come back and complete the house. Plumbing had to be redone, attic insulation a mess, doors don't lock, rooms smaller than what floor plans say. What you see in the models you don't get (kitchen not the same as model and that's what sold us on that model). Plus there are a lot of little things that are wrong, I could give you a list. Keep getting the runaround with excuses why it is not done yet. According to Mr. Shorten, house is completed in 4-8 weeks. Well, it's 10 for us so far. I don't see us moving in for another few months. It's very frustrating dealing with these people. They never return phone calls. Wish it was easy to just tell them to take the house back. VERY poor customer service.

If you are looking for a good modular company, you might want to try Simplex Industries. They are located on Route 6 in Dickson City. They were featured on Bob Villa's Home Again.

Good luck. I hope you don't get stuck like my fiance and I did.
