We live in Illinois and are considering relocating to the area as well....if hubby can find a job there. He is a residential electrician. We are considering other states as well, but love Florida. We have 3 kids ( 9 months, 3 yrs, 4 yrs) I homeschool so the schools aren't an issue for us.

Here are a couple of links to the employment section of some local newspapers --- this might give you an idea of the jobs that are available currently .....

My wife and I also just returned from a week in Pensacola Beach.. just loved the Gulf Breeze area and are already making plans to sell our home in Kansas and relocate. After checking out some of the costs of living in Gulf Breeze (housing mainly) are there any areas close that are comparable with out the high housing costs? TY

Check out Baldwin County, AL (as close to Pensacola as Gulf Breeze-Navarre,FL are) - good schools + inexpensive houses.
Unlike Florida, Alabama does have state income tax, BUT property tax rates in Alabama are much lower.

Hi KitKat,
Did you and your husband ever decide to move? My husband and I moved to Pensacola 4 1/2 years ago from Northwest Ohio....we have had one heck of a roller coaster ride since moving here but have never looked back. We LOVE the Southern culture here in Pensacola, the history, arts, food, and, of course, the beach. We're both working downtown and are trying to sell our house and move closer to downtown. My sister and her husband just joined us here a couple of months ago from Dallas and they love it too. Don't fool yourself, hurricanes ARE worse than tornados. We said the same thing, but I've never seen such widespread destruction from a tornado. But we STILL love it here and plan to stay.

If you are considering relocating to Pensacola, and would be interested in the possibility of organizing a support/networking group to keep in touch with before, during and after relocation, please reply to this post'
