Pensacola is a fine Southern city with a rich history and much to like. Obviously, not every city is suited to every body and as another poster said, that will have to be for you to decide. Visit websites and read about Pensacola. The history and the beauty of Pensacola's downtown only tells part of it's story. It's tourist that return again and again, year after year love vacationing on it's crystal white sandy beaches with the emerald water of the Gulf to play in. Boating, swimming, snorkeling, and fishing are only a few of the things there are to do.
And there is always something going on in Pensacola: September is the Pensacola Seafood festival, November is the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show, Mardi Gras is in February and the Pensacola Jazzfest takes place annually in March-April.

No offense to the Pensacola realtor, but we lived there for 3 years. It is not all that. Pensacola has a crime rate above the national average. (430, the average is 325).

It is very humid, much more than south Florida. People who live there know the difference between regular humidity and pan handle humidity!

There is a very arch-conservative bent to that area. No tolerance, don't dare be pro-choice or say a bad word about any conservative issue. There is also tremendous poverty on the fringes.

Pensacola has some beautiful parts, but I strongly advise a newcomer to rent first and make darn sure it is their cup of tea.

We have lived all over the US, Pensacola has a very strange and unsettling vibe to it once you live there for a while.

Just curious what you are comparing Pensacola to?
Also, just curious if your description of a "arch-conservative bent" is why you describe it as "very strange and unsettling".
If not, then what is so very strange about it?
Your description is very odd to me. But you lived in Pensacola and you gave your opinion. That's what this is all about.
Where is it that you live now?

i am a college graduate, no kids, adn am engaged to a wonderful navy officer...she is stationed here adn i followed.
the cuteness and charm that ive read about in the responses to your post seem to be the kind of stuff you would dig if youre a 55 yr old tourist from N dakota.
honestly, in a word....its just plain lame ass tourist stuff. (ok that was morethan a word) THe beaches are ok until about the end of june...after that its just ridiculously hot and humid.
it seems as though neighborhoods are either ghetto as hell or subdivision 'McMansions'...i live in the former adn let me tell you, im ready to burn this place down just for the entertainment value.
i had hoped that i could find some sort of art scene here ( i am photographer) but so far the only 'galleries' i can find are essentially high priced tourist shops with the same retarded oil on canvas beach paintings.

ok, i need to stop. im sorry that i sound so frustrated...but i am .
i hate this place...its ass backwards, christianoid, republican, boring, ghetto, hopeless, uncultured, adn all anyone cares about is the price of their insurance.

do yourself a favor...move somewhere else...not in florida.

best wishes man...sorry i sound like an *******.
I would have to agree on some points. I have lived here 18 years! Back in the 90's this town was moving ahead fast, It has slowed down, 2000-present has stopped and going in reverse. This is a great place to retire or work as Military support. Other than that the jobs are Not good and no industry.

Crime has risen. It the last 4 years. I have no idea why criminals would want to come here, I guess the weather.During the late 90's watched lots of culture and business's moving out. Its a beautiful southern city with alot of history. Thats about it.

Hahaha I like the one about the "arch-conservative". Heck some of those folks are bigger tax and spend liberals ( socialists ) than the so called liberals they claim to be the opposite of!
