just a quick question .. trying to figure out a basic budget for a possible move.

how much do utilities usually run for a 1-bedroom apt?

how much is cable tv + cable internet?

who are the main utility providers?

Thanks in advance.

It's going to depend on location, especially if you are looking along the Main Line. I'm near West Chester. Out here the main electric/gas provider is PECO. You should be safe if you budget $130/mo for an electric-only apartment. I don't have gas, so I don't know offhand what the cost of gas + electric is. I imagine it's cheaper, but YMMV.

For cable, I'm in Comcast country, though a lot of people have satellite dishes. TV plus internet will probably run up to $150/mo or so, depending on premium channels.

Water and sewer, if you pay for them separately, can run $20-$30/mo. Not everywhere breaks these out separately; a lot of places build these into the rent.

I've not seen anywhere with separate fees for trash or snow removal. But given the state of the economy, that might be coming next.

I live on the Main Line (rent) and pay about $170/mo. for Comcast "xfinity", which includes land line, internet and cable. My apt.'s combined gas/electric bill runs anywhere from $60 to $255 (last month's bill, due to the AC running so much).

Cable bills sound in line with that I'm paying here in LA.

gas+electric at $60 total also seems about right. $225 is a lot!

Depending on where you are for TV you can pick between Comcast, the dishes, and Verizon FiOS. PECO is the stadard utility for the entire area as far as I know (both electric and gas).

We've had like 5 heat waves in the last 2 months, barely had 10 days below 90 it seems and when we did, it was humid as all get out. AC has been running like crazy around here, basically non-stop. Bills are definitely higher than normal right now.

PECO does service the suburbs electricity and gas, the city is a bit different, but it sounds like that's not a concern for you.
