The food (and service) were phenomenal! Had a little bit of everything but I think the ricotta with onions/rosemary stole my heart. Could've taken a spoon to that dip and ate the entire thing. I've gotta bring my dogs sometime after seeing the "Pizza and Puppies" sign

What part of Chicago are you referring to, btw? It would help

The suburb-ishness of parts of Philadelphia outside of the downtown area is often overstated - it's just a matter of looking in the right place if walkability or transit access matters to you. I'm basically a less than 10 minute walk away from a lot of what I need (although not a ton of redundancy), two different train lines, and a 24 hour bus line that goes up and down one of the bigger commercial streets in the city.

But I knew what I was looking for and didn't settle for something that wasn't that.

Also note that the NE is just different than the Midwest. I've only visited Chicago briefly a few times - but I lived in a part of Minneapolis that was probably just as urban as most of Philly outside of of Center City proper - and yeah, there were trees and greenery and yards and big parks all over the place. Philly, like other NE cities, has been around longer and has earlier styles of building which placed less of an emphasis on those things. Which many people find charming, because you get the really tight knit, tree lined streets that the midwest lacks. But it is different. And we do have plenty of tree lined streets, even where there's no grass and yards.

You might have to compromise based on your priorities.

Also like someone else said - dogs just go on the street, there are really plenty of dogs in the Center City area.

I actually moved to Philly from Chicago myself, so maybe I can offer a little insight. I'd say Northern Liberties is probably one of the least dog-friendly areas, not too much there in terms of green spaces. As far as places similarly close to Center City go, the Museum area and the neighborhoods north of it have a good amount of green space, as does the southwestern part of University City. There's even a great dog park in the southwest edge of Center City, where Lombard St. meets the Schuylkill River (along with a nice human park and public garden), I'm not sure if the area has a specific neighborhood name. Further out, Philly becomes greener than any part of Chicago—Roxborough and Germantown have some especially large and beautiful green spaces, and to a lesser extent, so do Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill.
