Supposedly an existing parking garage at 7th will be repurposed for this use. (Nobody's going to tear down the ex-Rohm & Haas building or Federal courthouse that are actually at 6th and Market, and they're sure as Hell not going to put a bus terminal on Independence Mall.)

I don't see how this would work practically without bus bays somewhere. Too many buses pull into the 10th & Filbert facility to make curbside boarding/alighting practical.

IDK why the proposal to make 30th Street truly multimodal has gone nowhere. But the bus terminal's been in Center City proper for as long as I've lived here (the old Greyhound bus terminal sat where Ten Penn Center now sits; it had an underground parking area for the buses a la part of the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC. Trailways had its terminal at 13th and Arch, on land now part of the Convention Center). If designed properly, I don't see why 7th and Market would be any worse than 17th and Market as the site of a bus station, or 10th and Filbert for that matter. Bus riders skew downscale no matter where they catch buses, and it's not like junkies are leaving the driving to Greyhound.

it's not lost, the proposed central bus station near 30th would be located on decking that doesn't yet exist. for the forseeable future the space will remain open so when there is money it can still happen. there are downsides to centralization, the nutter administration found it would add a significant amount of traffic to an already congested area...especially where buses would continue to make a center city stop in addition to 30th st.
