We are thinking about renting a house on this street? Anybody know anything about the area? crime rates, etc?

Minton is not a major street, so I looked it up on Google Maps. It's just a few blocks north of Baseline Road. That's only half the picture in terms of location, though. The other half is how far east or west the address lies. It the address were 5100 W Minton, for example, you'd be in Laveen. If the address were 4800 E Minton, you'd be over by the Pointe South Mountain resort. Those locations and the neighborhoods in between vary quite a bit, so you'll need to be more specific about location. Obviously, you don't want to post the exact address here, but maybe you could feed the address into Google Maps and then see the major cross streets nearby.

I agree completely with Silverbear. I personally would not choose to live north of Baseline between 27th Avenue and 16th Street. Otherwise, I'm a huge fan of the Baseline corridor.

That's near the Pointe South Mountain resort and the Phoenix / Tempe border. That's generally an area I'm comfortable with, but sometimes neighborhoods can vary from one block to another. I'd definitely visit the area before making a final decision. The AZ Central site has a good tool (broken link)for finding crime stats around a specific address.

That's an older neighborhood dating back to the late 80s, I think. I don't know it exactly, but I lived very near there for several years. It is not the nicest of places and not the worst either. It's probably more established than some of the new developments that are full of repos and rentals, but I'd be wary. Definitely visit before you sign anything. If you have kids, there is a school right there called Nevitt Elementary - its not rated very well. One thing about living there is that it is conveniently located.

I agree. Very convenient location..The area is in the Tempe school district so that's a plus.
It's a good long term investment as property values will be quick to rise and stabilize in this
area. I bought a house in this area and haven't experienced any issues so far.
