I don't know Mesa that well but my mother lives there. She lives close to Rucker and University which is quiet and safe.

But you drive not too far towards Rucker and Brown or Rucker and Main and crime picks up.

Mesa
East Mesa
Far East Mesa.

Makes total sense to me.

It seems to me that a good portion of Mesa east of Power Road is a collection of county areas mixed in with Mesa city limits. The better areas east of Power tend to be in the city limits.

Why not, West Mesa, Central Mesa and East Mesa? You can almost make the same argument for north and south

If we were starting over with a clear vision of how Mesa would grow, that would definitely make sense. However, people have called the area from Gilbert Road to Power Road "East Mesa" for decades. There are even business names within those boundaries that incorporate the phrase "East Mesa." It might be burdensome for a more established area to change its name just because a newer area has been developed. It is interesting, though, that the phrase "Central Mesa" is already in use to describe the smaller area in and around Downtown -- from roughly Alma School to Mesa Drive. The recently opened segment of light rail is called the "Central Mesa Extension."

"What do you think divides East and West Mesa?" My vote is Gilbert Rd. where the light rail ends... I guess you can add far east which could be anything past the 202 including the Eastmark area.

I've always considered it Gilbert Road.

Demographics are what mainly divide east and west Mesa.

Most family-oriented areas and retirees are on the eastern side.

Many younger singles and college students are concentrated in west Mesa as sort of a spillover from Tempe.

The MLS divides East Mesa and West Mesa at Mesa Drive. You can see the division here:

Is the area around Mesa Riverview good or bad?
