But did you move to Phoenix only for outdoor reasons? If it was just that you could have moved to Sedona, Moab, Preskitt, etc.

I'm sure you also took into account big city amenities like a major airport, things to do when you're not outdoors, entertainment options, sporting events, right?

Yes you are correct, I was thinking that was implied. But yes, I like do like big city amenities for entertainment, shopping, arts/culture, etc.

I thought so too and was genuinely curious, I think PHX is a big city that outranks most others for folks seeking outdoor options nearby and directly within the city, especially if you prefer warm weather. I don't think Phoenix is an outdoor mecca like Moab or Bend, places known basically solely for their outdoor amenities and almost nothing else.

I love our outdoor access here as well, it's a benefit that those who head up the chamber of commerce and GPEC should continue to tout. There are some posters on this that think we rely too heavily on outdoor access, I say bring on every benefit we can get for the highly competitive job attraction game.

Newspapers have to fill columns, even with blather.

Like the MLB and NFL views of the Rocky Mountains from Denver stadiums, people think Denver is in the mountains, it isn't, it's in a bowl at the far western edge of the Great Plains / Short Grass Prairies and merely abuts the foothills 10+ miles before reaching real mountains 20+ miles west of town.

But Denver has no identify crisis any more than does Phoenix. It begs the question of does any city need an "identity?" Sure, Los Angeles is known as Tinseltown for the movie studios and Hollywood, but it's a lot more than that, including probably the largest commercial ocean cargo port on the entire West Coast.

The only identity I'd believe for Phoenix is that this is the Valley of the Sun, which is far more appropriate and IMO already widely understood, far and wide.

Phoenix identity is now tied to violent crime....nice.

From the article: "According to Neighborhood Scout, a crime mapping online resource, only 4% of US cities are less safe than Phoenix. Data shows about 43 people per 1,000 being impacted by either violent or property-related crimes. This means you have a one in 118 chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime in Phoenix, and 1 in 204 chance in Arizona."

A lot of truth there. My wife and I refer to the 10 O'Clock news as the Crime Report.

You need to keep the data set in mind, this website considers every single city and town in the country, you're talking 100,000's of places. For some perspective according to this same website Salt Lake City is safer than 0% of other US cities. Is SLC now known for violent crime?

1 in 118 chance probably sounds high but that's less than 1%.

Like anywhere, it just depends on what part of the city you live in.

When it involves attracting new business & competitive jobs, outdoor recreation is very low on the list. Companies are looking mainly for financial incentives: namely, places with lower taxes (particularly income & corporate), as well as a reasonable overall cost of living. Just as important is the skill factor. Companies want knowledgeable, motivated, goal oriented employees who strive for excellence & will help the company obtain further success, and improve bottom line revenue. Of course, other important factors are what a city has to offer as far as education, medical services, transportation network, etc. If you think outdoor access is one of our "benefits" in this regard, you're badly mistaken.
