You're preaching to the choir. Don't you realize that ADOT is doing an absolutely AMAZING job? They're going to build a bypass in Kingman, do a study on the 35th Avenue overpass, and they've been widening U.S. 93 in spurts for the last 25 years, which is just remarkable! My goodness, be thankful that you can drive to Vegas on a highway that goes from 4 lanes to 2 lanes in a split second. Don't forget: ADOT also announced their new clever snow plow names, which is something we've all been highly anticipating. Praise ADOT!!!

The above article highlights some of ADOT's many downfalls. U.S. 60 and the 303 are not sufficient enough as they currently are to keep up with Surprise's rapid growth. If the article isn't fully accessible, here are a list of ADOT's "fixes" (which are weak Band Aid solutions at best):

* A third westbound lane was added along U.S. 60 between 163rd and Loop 303, and a second right turn lane was opened for westbound travelers switching to 163rd Avenue from Grand Avenue.

* Open a third left turn lane for southbound 163rd Avenue travelers transferring onto Grand Avenue.

* Add a third eastbound lane on Grand between Loop 303 and 163rd Avenue.

* Extend the recently added westbound lane on Grand so it goes past the 163rd Avenue intersection.

* Modify sidewalks and ramps in multiple locations around the related intersections to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Nothing about making Grand into a full fledged freeway, which is what was planned more than 30 years ago, but was axed. On top of this, they want voters to approve an extension of the half cent transportation tax so that the public can receive more empty promises, or results that are slow to be achieved.

I'm not surprised to read that (bolded) as I was in that area and was astounded at how busy the 303 has gotten in such a short time. It's gonna be gridlock in a couple years at this rate. There is plenty of room for added lanes but money and competition for it means it will be years of congestion and gridlock ahead.

The intersection of the 303 and 60 is already a disaster. What an incredibly short-sighted design that was. Cars are backed up for a mile or more trying to get from the 303 to 60 on the way to Vegas.
