Way over simplified. And often, it's not true. Barring that, some people pay a lot more taxes than others.

Tomorrow’s cold day proof of no impending disaster? Or does the one day anecdote only work in one direction?

I'll try to help. For some reason, people who have formed a hardened opposite opinion are armed with flawed logic.

Global warming doesn't mean every place is "warmer". Rather, the warming of the ocean temps (due to the slowing down of the surface water's ability to absorb CO2) is why the climate is changing. Therefore, because of the ocean surface temp changes, global warming==climate change.

Global warming doesn't always mean every spot is warmer. Like the 2021 rare Texas cold snap fiasco that froze the power grid. In fact, regions like East Asia have had cooler-than-average winters in recent years. Researchers from KIST out of Korea which is one of their climate research centers say to look at the oceanic frontal surface temperature regions. Because they act as thermostats, influencing the frequency of winter cold waves as well as abnormally high temperatures. These mid-latitude oceans are the key influencers in generating abnormal weather patterns, particularly in East Asia and also North America.

Just as looking at a single 80-degree record day isn't proof of anything. Same as your point by examining today's cold day. By the way, on March 7th, the record low PHX temp was 34 degrees. Needless to say, your point is further meaningless because we weren't close to a record-cold day. At least Voebe was discussing a record high.

When you understand the next statistical phrase, then you will get it. This link (unsuccessfully) tries to reduce it to layman's terms. But the graph of the linked Bell Shape Curve says it all. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/bl...t%2030%20years. "We have shown that these “3-sigma” (3σ) events, where σ is the standard deviation — seasons more than three standard deviations removed from “normal” climate — are a consequence of the rapid global warming of the past 30 years."

Big picture, the weather variability is on the rise. That link shows data that matches the anecdotal evidence Mike described (fires, heat waves, and other disasters). Now is not the time to be further non-technical and talk about reading about a couple of scientists who inaccurately claimed that we are going into another ice age while non-technical English major reporters parroted their claims. Think deeper.

Summary (oversimplified but shows what is going on): More CO2=warmer globe. When the majority of the absorption (ocean surface water) absorbs too much CO2 gas, then the ocean surface water warms and that impact changes the climate and patterns more drastically. If and when we have a bunch of PHX cooler weather (while Canada or __________ is baking), please, re-read this post to follow along with what is going on. If your point is that it isn't all manmade, that's one thing. I can wrap my head around that one. But to say the weather isn't more variable in uneducated at best.

Apparently it's what the American people want since they vote those people into office.

But let's not get too far away from what this thread is supposed to be about -- impending climate disaster.

This is not even a reasonable question. Do you understand what temperature averages are? It's a simple average. Nothing complex about it. For the first 6 days of this month our average high temperature was approximately 1.1 degrees higher than normal. After yesterday, the first 7 days of this month our high temperature was 1/2 degree below average.

Climate change is a fact and PHX is 1 of the places being impacted the most because of inland urban sprawl. No getting around it, the warming is mostly human-caused. https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/
