When you bought your condo did you have to meet any qualifications with the association board, get approval or something like that?

Or was it just between you and the seller without any interference?

I recall having to be approved by the HOA..but it was just a formality...the CCRs are public record and can be viewed online.

You should meet with the board before closing. Your realtor may discourage it but ignore them.

After meeting them you may not want to live there. You will be able to ask questions the realtor doesn't know the answer to.

To the best of my knowledge, you do not have to interview. At co-ops, maybe, but not otherwise.

When we had a condo all they checked was credit score. And we were given the cc&r's right away to look over. We had no problems with the proceedings.

My experience was easy-peasy. No meetings needed with the HOA, just agree to the conditions. Much nicer than renting and cheaper than buying a house. Less work too.
