The "Knobs" is a region of small hills (resembling a knob) that was formed when the Bluegrass and Pennyroyal plateaus pushed against each other, a smaller scale version of India running into the Asian continent and creating the Himalayas. They are only about 20-30 miles across in width and extend from southern Louisville to near Somerset, KY
This picture reminds of that scene on the movie Kindergarten Cop" with Arnold Schwarzeneger<--Hope I spelled that right. The mountains in the background are majestic.
