we love using mirrorless cameras as we get to see the exposure through the viewer in real time .

but for our birding i find its not optimal since the view finder actually lags behind a bit so birds in flight are not actually where you view them when focusing.

my older d800 was better for birds in flight

The D800 is slightly faster than the Nikon Z-series, but you will be amazed at the burst speed of the Z. I don't even notice any shutter lag on my canon R6. I wonder if you have a friend who can let you try one of the Z's?

Glad to hear. While I use Canon cameras, I still like Nikon's. The shutter lag thing, at least for the average person in real life situations is hardly noticed. I don't even have time to think about it when photographing fast-moving subjects.
