I've suffered from depression since before puberty and am 46 years old. I've often thought of committing suicide and the ways to off myself. Knife to the heart, overdose on medication, jump from the roof of a tall building are some examples of ways I would kill myself. What they all have in common is the only person killed in my action is myself. What this german co-pilot did wasn't a suicide. This was an act of mass murder. This goes beyond him suffering from depression. Most people who are depressed wouldn't think of murdering many other people along with themselves. There must be some other underlying mental condition besides depression that would drive someone to murder 150 people.

I totally agree. And I challenge anyone, including the media, to cite an example of an incident when someone engaged in this sort of behavior solely or predominately because they were depressed.
The media is totally reaching here, because they cannot come up with any clearly valid reason for this apparently senseless act right now. Meanwhile, those who have not experienced depression, or who effectively know nothing about depression (including apparently the mass media) are jumping on board with this baseless assertion.
Being depressed to a point of contemplating suicide comes from a sense of deep and overwhelming hopelessness. It is not about anger, revenge, or some desire to hurt other people.
This person did not crash this plane because they were depressed. They might have killed themselves because they were depressed. There was something more to this than what we currently know.
all depressions, mental illness, and psychosis are layered and can be very different. The copilot was not the norm. . .but I am betting the illness played a signficant role in his death. . .just like Adam Lanza and James Holmes

You obviously have compassion and empathy for others, despite chronic depression.
You are also spot on. This was a mass murder, not suicide.

Why is it that normal looking people always look normal?
Rumblings are going around that he was a Muslim convert.
None of which are based on any actual evidence that has been released.
The police have only found that he had a doctors note from last week which gave him time off for his mental illness and that he hid his medical condition from his employers.
