Was it a Bible? I recall some years ago a similar stunt (not videoed, for it was before such things) where some preacher thought that holding a Bible against his chest would stop a bullet.


It didn't.

No, it was an encyclopedia volume. I've seen several comments on news sites regarding the bible and this case, and and in my opinion you (and many others) are letting your bias against religion and religious people show. I'd suggest you look into the facts (there are several stories regarding this case and many mention the book used) before commenting as such. I have no idea if this couple was religious, and regardless it has nothing to do with their ignorance. Plus, wouldn't shooting the Bible purposely would be considered a sacrilege?
