A good question would be to find out who is writing the prescription. If it be doctors or similar health professionals do they take to time to make a reasoned diagnosis? Do they stick to limits to ensure that the drugs are not dealt?

Or are pharmacists sometimes illicitly writing the scrips? I think this epidemic would come to a grinding halt with a few well-publicized arrests; people in white coats trading them for pin stripes.

IMO calling fentanyl a recreational drug is crazy.

Are you making a joke or mocking the other poster with sarcasm?

Unethical doctors prescribing narcotics that might be abused just to fatten their bank accounts? That never happens in the real world, no way!

Not to be outdone, veterinarians are getting in on the action too. It turns out a lot of pet meds have “benefits” for their human owners. The whole medical/pharma/insurance scheme in this country is beyond broken.

Every patient that has surgery is getting fentanyl during the surgery. Every one. It is the most effective pain medicine we have. We have been using fentanyl in medicine for decades before it became a "recreational" drug. Is it even a recreational drug? I think most people that take it don't know that they are taking it. It has been added, without their knowledge, to whatever it is that they think they are taking. You would have to be suicidal to take fentanyl on purpose, just for fun. It takes very little fentanyl to make a person stop breathing. My patients often stop breathing with just a small dose, but I am there to breath for them.

When it is prescribed by a doctor for someone OUTSIDE of the hospital setting, it is prescribed as a patch, and the drug gets slowly absorbed through the skin. This is really the only safe way to give it to someone who is not being observed. Even then, if the person decides to put on multiple patches at the same time, they can still overdose, but that is rare.

Oh, and these days, all opioid prescriptions are scrutinized. It's not like the old days.

Fentanyl and other addictive drugs are being brought over from the border and sold on the streets. An ethical doctor wouldn't prescribe these drugs.

I do not think it's being taken intentionally either. It's China killing Americans via Mexico.

China sent its fentanyl makers to the cartels in Mexico, it’s used to make instant addicts. Former drug runners, etc..who after serving prison time shed light on the industry for others.
