Has there ever been an NFL team that relocated from their original location to a new place, and then came back?

“I’m coming out retirement.” A term we hear a lot in sports these days, especially football.

Imagine if a team comes back to their original home?

And yes, I am writing this because of Oakland in California. Their football and basketball organization relocated, and now there is talk of their baseball team packing their bags as well.

Try and imagine if the Raiders moved back?

And speaking of California, maybe the 49ers should change their name or come back home. They play in Santa Clara, yet are still titled San Francisco.

The Raiders left Oakland for Los Angeles, then moved back to Oakland.

The Chargers played their first season in Los Angeles, now they're back -- though who knows for how long.

Speaking of Los Angeles, the Rams moved from LA to St. Louis and back to LA. But they only half-count since their original home was Cleveland.

No need to imagine, as that already happened!

The New York Jets and New York Giants both play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, so it's not uncommon.

Washington is in Maryland. I think it's technically Landover, but it was Raljon when Jack Kent Cooke Stadium was originally built.

Landover, of course, being where the Caps Center was and where the Bullets/Wizards and Capitals played.

The 49ers tried desperately to get a new stadium built within the city limits of San Francisco, obviously that didn't happen and Santa Clara threw hundreds of millions of dollars at them to relocate.

Technically the bay is also named the San Francisco Bay, so think of the 49ers, who now play in Santa Clara as being named after the Bay, instead of the city!

I'm almost certain, when Da Bears move to the burbs and Arlington Heights, they will not be changing their name to the Arlington Heights Bears.

And like others have mentioned, both the Jets and Giants have been playing in New Jersey for how many decades now?

The Dolphins haven't played in Miami and the Orange Bowl since 1987, they play in Miami Gardens. Their stadium is 8 miles north of the Miami city limits.

Do the Patriots count here? They played home games in downtown Boston area until moving to Foxborough in 1971. They also changed their name from the Boston Patriots to the New England Patriots in 1971.
