Sure did!

Both in the family and ......... as an Aggie where I took some with a saber.

SHRUG, just part of the system.

Thank God in this modern world I am not in the position to give them.

My mother would tell us to go pick our switch to get beat with , my mom used to slap us across the face too , all little girls , how awful. My ex mil would throw forks at the kids foreheads . Hate to say but they would most likely be in jail if this happened today. I never laid a hand on either of my sons and they turned out perfect.

The problem with hitting the kid is that the kid may resent and remember it. I know I did. I would say to myself, "one day, old man, I will pay you for this." Not for the times he did it punitively against his own wishes, but for the times he was just venting his temper and lost it on his son. I was twenty when things finally went the other way. It's really amazing what a decade and a half of stored fury will generate in terms of adrenaline.

I wasn't, but my husband was. He still has deep-seated resentment over it, although he's forgiven his parents. I remember how shocked I was when he told me this, because before that, they seemed like such a perfect TV sitcom family.
