looks like a new nonstop transatlantic flight for RDU is about to be publicly announced, i believe tomorrow Tues 9/12/23:
from noted and reliable airline industry tweeter:

RDU-FRA
Raleigh Durham / Frankfurt Germany
next summer, 5x a week starting in June 2024

https://twitter.com/xJonNYC/status/1701394794059280544

just FYI:
note it's NONSTOP
not just "Direct" because direct flights are not always nonstop in the parlance of the airline business.

Southwest has "direct" flights from RDU to all sorts of places that have multiple stops with no change of planes. THAT'S what "direct" means. no change of planes, NOT necessarily nonstop.
end of airline lesson for the day!

The RDU United Lounge will be a nice amenity that was added for Star Alliance a few years ago

Not necessarily. An airline can schedule an "equipment change" at the intermediate point, which has the practical effect of making you go to another aircraft. In some cases, the intermediate point is a port of entry where you have to clear immigration and customs. You might get back on the same aircraft, or you might not. I've had both of these happen.
