Hi everyone,
I am coming down to durham this fall for grad school at Duke. I'm familiar with the area since I have friends down there and visit often. I am considering these apartment complexes:

Pinnacle Ridge
Pine Ridge
Park Ridge Estates (sure are alot of "ridges"...)
Lenox at Patterson Place (formerly Alta Crest)
Laurel Trace

I love the proximity to Pinnacle Ridge to West campus, but it is more expensive. I'm looking for a one bedroom apt....

If you've lived in any of these properties, please let me know what you thought!
Thanks,
jamie

Hi Jamie,

I *strongly* recommend you review the Duke housing survey results. Invaluable for finding good apartment choices:

Student Affairs | Community Housing

I don't know any of the apartments you've named in particular, but I definitely suggest you check out this survey. Good luck!

I currently live in Pine Ridge. The apartments are nice. The one bedroom is a bit small, but I don't have a lot of stuff, so it's cool for me. The grounds are well kept and very nice. The rent is fair I think (I pay $530 a month) and I'm sure you maybe able to catch a special when you movie in. Most of the office staff is nice/helpful and maintenance responds quickly. I will say that noise has been a constant problem for me the past 6 months and I will be moving out as soon as possible (right now as I type I can hear loud music coming from an apartment in the building behind me). I don't know how prevalent the problem is across the complex, but before I moved in all I heard/read were good things about this complex. Hope that helps....

I live in Pinnacle Ridge. I love it's proximity to work. I work at Duke. I live in a 2 bedroom apt. However the one bed room is huge as well. Also, If you have a one bedroom with a den, which means that I don't have a patio/balcony so much as the patio is part of the common stair area. The second and third floor apartments have a gate to seperate off their porch area. This is only a minor issue, and is particular to the one bedroom with den floor plan.
The complex is very quiet. Maintenance request is done quickly. Most residents are families, grad students or Duke employees. I recommend that you check it out yourself and visit Apartment Ratings - Apartments for Rent with Ratings and Reviews from Actual Renters.

Stay away from Laurel Trace. Especially don't be fooled by their ground look. The management is horrible.
