Our last house had a similar stove setup, with a different stove. We used it almost daily in the winter and never had an issue in 7 years.

The listing says "fireplace: woodburning". I think its the kind from my childhood where u have 2 doors that swing open to lay sticks inside. It's the traditional kind I like but looks weird. A regular inspector is coming to check out all the basics.

It's a 100k house in NC where it doesn't stay very cold for long.

I had a house in NC with a propane fireplace and it was very effective. However it was a task to turn on (many safety mechanisms) and there was always the risk of a huge tank sitting next to the house where I shot my guns. As seldom as we use it, having a wood burning fireplace sounds like a better idea. I think all rural homes should have an "off-grid" option for water and heat.

So I never found out if the woodstove is compliant, but the owner uses it for heat. The regular inspection found too many big problems (crooked pier with falling insulation and moister damage, old electric) so we cancelled the contract/ offer.

You might also want to find another insurance agent. He should have been able to tell you yes or no to that stove without leaving you guessing.

In the long run, cancelling the contract was a better option based on the new issues that you mentioned. Sounds like the woodstove was the least of your problems. Oh well, you will likely find a better home instead. Good luck.
