USA Parkway runs from the Industrial park south to highway 50 near Stagecoach. Easy access from there, Silver Springs and even Dayton (but that's a little far in my opinion). Of course, there is the new road from the bottom Geiger out to Sparks also. Easy and fast to get to all points Reno-ish nowadays. Only problem is both roads have artificially low speed limits. Thankfully, there is nowhere for the NHP to hide out on USA Parkway (you can see for miles!), so you can make pretty good time.

Dayton, by the way, has a big old Kroger grocery store, 3 dollar stores, fast food, a couple casinos, some sort of medical emergency place (never been), vets, pretty much everything you need.

Also, at least 3 golf courses within 10 miles of Dayton (that I know of. I don't golf). One in Dayton (other side of the river), Empire Ranch and that other one in Carson, both on the far east side of town and close to Dayton.

Also a dog park (which I don't get. The World is a Dog park).

Not sure about Fallon, but Fernley and parts of Dayton can get very windy. I didn't enjoy that...

C'mon, some areas aren't bad. Northern Sparks is not bad at all. I don't think Double Diamond/Damonte Ranch is too bad. Some areas of NW Reno are somewhat protected.

Honestly, maybe so in Dayton, it is more of a suburb of CC than a city itself...not sure...Dayton does have alot of newer homes right on a world-class golf course though and it is usually more affordable. I do know quite a few people that relocated out there when they retired. Fallon is a ranching town and even though I worked on dude ranches for years when I was younger, Fallon can smell bad to me and it is a bit too desert. I love the Sierra's and CC or Reno/Sparks are next to the mountains. If you are looking to purchase than I would try to stick with Reno or CC unless you like smaller towns and don't mind more of a desert setting. I am not sure about Fernley, I think it has grown quite a bit recently and I have not been out there in years. CC has some nice golf courses and some newer developments. Definitely mountain views here. Reno/Sparks has alot of homes and golf and they do have more new home developments than CC. Spanish Springs is outside Reno and alot of development there. You have alot of options really. CC would be the longest commute of the towns discussed, I would not want to commute that long every day myself.
As far as wind, CC has the most intense wind and more cold and snow than Reno or Dayton. CC has better snow removal and road sanding for storms than Reno though.

I think it also depends on the size of community you are comfortable with. Reno/Sparks is typically a city and suburban feel (shopping malls, restaurants, a few museums). Carson City is a smaller town but still many of the big box stores and amenities. Dayton, Fernley, and Fallon are small town, mostly rural. They have the usual Home Depot, Walmart, grocery stores, and small casinos. But overall, there are no shopping malls with department stores and a fairly limited selection of restaurants. On the other hand there are a few quaint family owned diners and the quiet of wide open spaces.

Most mid- to upper-level Tesla employees do not end up staying long term. You might want to consider renting for a while to see how it works out for you. Our experience locally is that most of the rank and file are residents, anything above (other than a few managers I've met) are contracted or, even it hired as a permanent employee, do not end up staying for more than a year. We see lots of contractors go through here on a regular basis, lots! WE have a few neighbors that work in hospitality (hotels, car rental) and they see Tesla employees all the time. We live in south Reno, not far from the airport, and you can pick out Tesla contractors (cute little Tesla jackets and ball caps) all over the area in stores, restaurants, and in the casinos. Not sure why they are driving that far to Tesla, other than the availability of long term hotels, but lots of them around.

My plans are to work a couple of years in the area and then retire in the area. I am used to living in older neighborhoods of a mid-sized city.
With 3 dogs, I am not sure renting is a good option. Tesla is not the company I work for & would not be a contractor. I appreciate all the feedback & will be in the area several times to acquaint myself with the area.

Tell that to my lawn chair. Last I heard it was passing through Fallon.

Straight-up real quote from an old neighbor of mine: "Hey, Buddy. Have you seen my pool?"

Then your lawn chair was in the "wrong" part of town. This last storm that passed just passed through? We had a few minor wind gusts. Not much at all. We went to Verdi for Thanksgiving dinner and the wind was much stronger and consistent.
