That's surprising. It doesn't appear to be a city with such a large problem, but I guess it's hidden.

Yes, I've only been there for a few hours at a time. It didn't seem obvious to me but I was mostly on the main road anyway.

That study didn't look very strong. Essentially, Carson had more drug deaths than the average. A bad batch of something could have caused that alone. None of it meant that more people were doing drugs, or not.

Yes, I was wondering about that...a small sample size. I wonder what the pattern looks like over many years.

Carson City has worst drug problem in Nevada

This sounds alarming but doesn't mean the drug problem is particularly bad. Some area has to be the worst in Nevada, why not Carson City?

I noticed that last time I visited a friend in Genoa. Lots of meth-heads when we went into Carson City to gamble/shop. It's like the 90s keep replaying themselves over and over up there...

The reason is most likely that Carson City has the best hospital for rural Northern Nevada. That is Lyon County and Douglas County etc. Carson Tahoe Hospital is a top notch care center and many people from rural towns come into Carson City for treatments.
We also most likely have a default status for statistics for rural indigent populations since the state offices are here.
My husband lived in Las Vegas, Reno, Sparks and now Carson City and he says Carson City is the nicest and safest of them all by far. Carson does have more services like shelters and food banks and state offices that also concentrate more 'at risk' populations here in a few small pockets.
I think the data is skewed by some of these factors.
Carson City has a great cohesiveness in the population, the city leadership is outstanding and they really concentrate on quality of life, the law enforcement here is on top of the problem areas and very responsive to keeping our community safe. This is a great city to live in.
