Hello all,

I know this has prabably been asked a million times but can anyone advise me on the good neighborhoods around Reno/Sparks that I can rent an apartment/house. I may be relocating for work from NorCal if a job offer comes through. The only areas I've spent in Reno is the downtown/casino area that seems very run down and the area near the university which seems a lot nicer.

My budget is around $1100 a month for a 1bedroom apartment or house. I have flexibility here but I'd like my first apartment to be on the cheaper side so that by the time my lease is up and I'm more familiar with the area, I may want to relocate. Obviously safety is a big priority for me. I don't need to be near the downtown area and would be fine in the suburbs if there are rentals that meet my criteria. I should find out next week on the job and I'd take a couple days off to look around and do some apartment tours.

Renting a room from somebody for up to six months could be an option if I can't find anything right away. I don't want to feel rushed into relocating.

Thanks for any and all feedback.

How is northwest Reno? North of the 80 west of Mccarran/659. Looked at a few apartments in that area online that look pretty nice and have great yelp reviews in a more suburban area. I know all of Reno isn't like downtown but I'd prefer to be in an area with less transient foot traffic.

The only issue there is it may be a little more windy than some other areas. But living in an apartment, it's probably not as big a deal as living in a home with yards.

Generally speaking the rule is the further away from the freeways (I-80, I-395/580), the better. Where you are talking about should be OK, that is near UNR. You may have a few college kids running around.

I believe the apartments up that way are kind of lower income. My uncle lives up that way and complains about em because there's always cop cars up there, but it might not be a big deal for you coming from a city in norcal
