The
Tattered Cover in downtown Denver ; the LODO area, near Union Station and the 16th St Mall. Great walkable area.
When visiting there we stayed at
The Oxford Hotel and ate in their art deco '
Cruise Room ' which was way cool. The bookstore is a one block walk from the Oxford. There's a ton of eateries in the area and the 16th Pedestrian Mall is car-free with free bus service for its 2-mile run.

If your traveling via I80 then you would probably stay in Reno...unless your taking a scenic route through Tahoe and then Carson City is a good option if you come down Spooner Summit on Hwy 50.
