i've got a single 74 yo friend who is looking to move to the reno area (open to carson or gardnerville areas as well). we are hoping to find him a duplex or mobile home park to rent, hopefully something that rents to seniors based on their income. love to have a small yard (he loves to putter in the garden) & a garage. he is on a limited fixed income, no pets & is still able to work p/t.

any suggestions?

Maybe this link can help:

https://nvhousingsearch.org/

or:

https://housing.nv.gov/

https://www.realtor.com/rentals

Also, some of the affordable housing subgrantees such as Northern Nevada Housing Authority might be able to assist with a search?

Just to note that from talking to others who have been searching for rentals in Northern Nevada, almost all went through a real estate professional to find a home. The market is tight here, the list can be long of pre-approved tenants and sometimes it is best to work with a realtor or property management company. They can also help you avoid undesirable properties or neighborhoods.

thanks for the info chris!

i've tried googling/zillowing 55+ communities & am having a check of a time - most of them come up with assisted living or memory care type places that want to charge $2500+/mo. just when i think i've found the right community, i explore a little further & it's never quite right.

Do you have an approximate monthly rent amount in mind?

his ss income is $1300, so i'm guessing $300-600 would be a good range. anything higher will have him living under a bridge somewhere. i've given him the phone # listed on the nvhousingsearch webpage & told him not to dilly dally - as a lot of the places have a wait list.

I had a friend on that list and it took 2 years. His income is too low to live here. He should move somewhere cheaper.

Carson City and Gardnerville have just as high of rents as Reno, unfortunately. Las Vegas is the most probable for affordability and availability.

Fallon, Yerington, Elko or other rural communities might be doable and have less demand. Although if there is mining in the area, it creates rental shortages as well.

Areas around Laughlin and Bullhead City are some of most affordable places in Nevada if you can find rentals
