Good morning, going on the 4th year living at this apartment complex. The new management company is great. I'm wondering if we would be stepping out of line asking if they could remove the bushes in front of the patio of our apartment. We have not had a chance to truly enjoy our porch living here and had to keep doors/windows closed as bees/wasp/other stingy critters find a way in usually. The bushes are thriving with stingy things this year.

Think it be out of line to ask property management to remove the bushes? There is 40 ground units with a porch outside of us only 5 others have bushes.

I would consider it out of line. You don't get to use the landlord's resources and money to redecorate to your own tastes and whenever you find that you want to control the landscaping it is time to buy your own house so the landscaping is yours to do with as you wish..

You could, however, send a polite notice that the bushes are harboring wasps and request that the wasps be treated.

It doesn't matter if there are bushes in front of your patio or not, you are going to get bugs. If they fly, they are capable of flying for more than 10 feet, so they can be coming from further way and not from your bushes at all.

If it is hornets, you could always spend $2-$3 and buy a hornet trap to hang in the bush. Maybe that would help.

Nothing has helped. The old property management dug up all the bushes except the two front buildings. Assume due to aesthetic. It is awful. Can't enjoy it at all. Nothing works. They just linger in the bushes all day during the Summer.

Will send a message see if they could treat the bushes hope it helps.

Don't you have screens?

Those stingy things are called pollinators.

Screens need to be fixed just never asked. From when we rented with the old property management the window acreens had holes and issues with seal. Can't keep the porch door open. Going to ask

It is perfectly okay to ask.

If you know you are highly allergic, make sure to mention that as well.

Perhaps he will choose to have an exterminator look at the situation, since removing the wasps would be an alternative solution. Nests in shrubs are not hard to control.

Hope you have photos or other documentation to PROVE those screens were damaged before you moved in. No? You're gonna pay to replace them when you leave, so maybe pay to replace them NOW while you get to enjoy them.

Sounds to me like you need window screens.

Ask to have your screens repaired. The landlord should do that, but if they won't, a really good window screen patch kit cost $6 and is really easy to use. That is for 10 patches. For $6 you could keep the bugs out of your house and still be able to open the windows.

I'm confused by this, and I think you may need to confirm some of your facts before you use them to try to get the landlord to do something.

I can't imagine the bushes being the problem concerning "stinging critters". And if you said this to your landlord, they may well look at you the way I am now, through the screen. like "What?" Can you post a picture of your porch and bushes?

Bees like blooming things, but bees don't normally sting unless really bothered.
Wasps have no interest in blooming things, and aren't attracted to bushes.

If there are wasps, they are probably nesting nearby, and the request that would actually help would be to find and spray the wasp nest, or do this yourself.

Window screens would keep either one out.
