Please name any non-resort, non big city suburb towns of 70,000 that are all that exciting and dyanamic. Sheboygan, Las Cruces, Yakima, Springfield, OR?? You get what you get when you go that small. For unique attributes I'd say
1. Home to 4/6 colleges depending
2. Close to Blue Ridge Parkway
3. Surroudnding lakes and hills good for recreation
4. Very nice affordable older neighborhoods
5. Good city services with low taxes
6. Mild climate (heat wave notwithstanding)
7. Good selection of shopping and restaurants for size
8. Close to leading auto race tracks VIR, Martinsville, Richmond, Bristol
9. Close to skiing plus Snoflex
10. Ice hockey
11. Baseball
12. Good medical facilities for size
13. For size has large number of diverse major private employers--Genworth, Fleet, RR Donnelly, B&W, Areva, Teva, Southern Air, Frito Lay, Liberty U., Griffin Pipe, Aerofin, Flowserve etc.

Badger, you're wasting your time arguing with The Joe or the other naysayers! They dislike Lynchburg; we love it.

The good thing is they move on and we get to keep it! We're better off without them.

And, The Joe, I think you're right in your analysis of who is happy with Lynchburg. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: It isn't for everyone but those that fit are very happy.

It's not really done with them in mind.

There he is. Coming out again first week of October. Have a great place we could share a pizza and some beers. No, it's not a chain--it looks like a real college hangout in the northeast actually.

Did you get t see my little garage disaster on Boonsboro Road in June. Big trees squashed my garage and nearly got my two cars. I was very lucky. It was on the front of the News and Advance. As of now it's still squashed but empty.

I love Lynchburg! We just moved to Virginia a couple of years ago (Botetourt) and I had been to the airport there and Amazement Square but we really hadn't stopped to check it out till last weekend and just walked around seeing all the old architecture....it's a beautiful city...will be back!

Editing to add that I don't think Lynchburg needs its own forum...it's close enough to Roanoke to be included and the Roanoke forum doesn't even keep that busy so don't split it up!

Small world, Jonas. I met one of your co-workers in June. The blogosphere is not as anonymous as one would think. The conversation happened to be centered around how much she liked the Burg. Go figure!

How did you come across the topic of me? Sure, if you know my nationality and my screen name, you know who I am.....but still. Fascinating!

Some things I remember well. Since I like to use forums for fun and for networking, I always remember where people say they work.
