So can the taxes be challenged with any luck when the towns re-assess upon purchase? How much does the bank's appraised price impact the town's asssessed value? Any town have better reputations than others?

Henrietta is supposed to be cheaper than Greece..true?

I know municipalities are hurting now - the incentive to give us a break is very thin...

Mine was assessed at 101,300 when we bought it, and we eventually got it lowered to 96,000. It wasn't a huge drop in our mortgage payment since we escrow the taxes, but it was better than nothing. So yes, it is possible, but what you need to do is be very, very particular about finding comparable homes, since they make you do all the research. At least in Greece that's how it was.
