Maybe the cost of gas is cheaper, however your comment proves my point that most people didn't understand the concept of the Fast Ferry project. If you're commuting once or twice a week, those 3-4 hours in a car will get old very fast.

The concept is sound, it's how the city and the original company went about applying the concept. They wanted a Cadillac ferry for a Caprice Classic town.

Here's what it costs to travel on the ferry, now (round trip from Tarifa to Tanger; 35 min. one way)

Réservation:*FRS Iberia S.L.

523.80 euros??? It was expensive enough for the two hour trip across the lake, yet there's little doubt wealthy folks can easily afford it.

People around Rochester talked up the ferry as if it was the Second Coming. It was doomed from the start, just another failure of the Johnson Admin., but a very expensive one at that (city taxpayers are now on the hook for ten of millions). In typical Rochester fashion, people talked it up (like the soccer stadium), but once it was up and running they didn't support it (on days the thing was actually working and not broken down).

A ferry similar to the one which crosses northern L. Superior during the summer might work, key word here is might.
