4th Street is okay...two good places right in that hotel, Scandal Bar and Grange. I'd suggest hitting the corner of 14th and K--Mayahuel, Ella and the Broiler are all great. Spataro on 14th and L, Chops and Ambrosia at 11th and K. For somewhere more casual I'd suggest Dad's on 10th and J, Megami (great choice for sushi) on 10th and K right next to the hotel, Broadacre Coffee on 10th and J for truly excellent coffee (although Temple on 9th and J is even better) and, while you may be turned off by the look of the place, Bud's Buffet on 10th and K for a truly amazing sandwich (get the half sandwich unless you want leftovers or a food coma.) Pizza Rock on K between 10th and 11th looks like a giant Ed Hardy T-shirt but the pizza is excellent.

For cocktails I'm not so up on places--are you thinking "quiet drink" or "party time"? If the latter, across 10th from your hotel is Parlare Lounge, around the corner is District 30 and Dive Bar next to Pizza Rock, and Blush ultra lounge on 12th and K. A new place called "K Bar" just opened on the corner of 10th and K. Marilyn's at 9th and K has live music, typically rock or R&B, and the occasional burlesque night. For quieter options the aforementioned Scandal bar in the hotel is a good choice.

If you go a few blocks farther east on J, K or L into Midtown, or farther west into Old Sac, there are roughly a zillion of each within a couple of blocks. Downtown itself tends to shut down after lunch except for the nightclubs.

As per cocktails, I was looking for both quiet and party time. I will be here for both business and pleasure.

We enjoyed Frank Fat's in downtown. Walked from the Hyatt. A Sac tradition. We liked the food. Pretty upscale for a Chinese restaurant. Not walkable from your hotel (but you said downtown or hearby), but when we later stayed at Le Rivage, south of downtown, we noticed that the Scott's Seafood connected to the hotel was a very popular place for happy hour.
