Hi All,
I will be moving to Sacramento from San Luis Obispo (the central coast of Cali) to finish up my Bachelor's at Sac State. I am a re-entry student (i.e. I just turned 30) and am considering Midtown for housing after searching the forum. My question is: Are specific areas of Midtown that you would/wouldn't recommend? Thanks in advance!

Would or wouldn't recommend based on what? If you're looking for quieter areas near the bus routes to Sac State, look in the upper right quadrant of the central city--north of I Street and east of 20th--in the neighborhoods of Boulevard Park, New Era Park and Marshall School. You get a free bus pass as a Sac State student (parking costs extra) and the 30/31 buses on J and L Street take you straight to the Sac State transit center and run every 15 minutes during most of the day. If you're looking for more of a lively party zone, look between J and P east of 16th. If you're a light sleeper or don't care much for the livelier environment it might not be your best choice. South of P Street is quieter and closer to light rail, but to get to Sac State from light rail you have to walk, bike or transfer to another bus at the 65th Street station--not bad but not as convenient as the 30/31 buses.

I'm a native Cali-fornian, and I'm fine with people saying "Cali."

Between I and P street and 15th and 21st are in general going to be more lively, although K and J have business all the way to 29th street(and beyond). If you are outside that range it will be more quiet but you can still walk or bike into the action. Marshall Park and Blvd. Park are probably the nicest most upscale part of the grid, while the southend of town is more "Janky".
