Hi all, looking for some assistance here................taking a bucket list road trip to golf in every state. Need some info regarding the Oregon coastal road route 101. We will be leaving Seattle heading for a night in Lincoln City and then down own to 7 feathers in Canyonville. Me and my bride, of 42 yrs, are driving a Corvette and I'm interested in the condition of the roads and the chance of hitting construction in July. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Bit confused on your route - if your destination is Canyonville (near Roseburg, right?), why would you detour to the coast (via the Portland metro and down 99 presumably) and down 101? Can you do it? Sure. I'd have to think about whether I would.

I mean, you're eating some of the problems areas the I-5 route has to offer (I-5 through Portland, 99 to Newberg), and your east-west detour is as long or longer than the time you'd actually be driving along 101. Seems like a long way to go for not much of the coast. You'd get more coastal value out of cutting over at Longview, though whether that fits your itinerary I can't say, but that would also bypass Portland and 99.

As for construction, I haven't heard any announced projects, so it's hard to tell if the roads you'd likely take 99/18/101/38 would specifically be impacted. You can sign up for notices for that region: State of Oregon: Northwest Region- Region 2

Possible AAA might have some advance notice from the state as well.

Thanks for the info......this coastal run isn't meant to save time but to enjoy the coastal hwy. Now if your telling me that you can't see the Pacific on that stretch of 101 then that's a different story. Is it a longer route? absolutely, I've learned that sometimes you just have to slow down and smell the roses.

Oh, you can see it for stretches of that length - 101 jumps to/away from the actual coast through that stretch. On the whole you'd probably see the ocean in maybe 50% of that particular route.

You'll just likely spend more time getting to/from 101 than you'll spend on 101, and definitely more time than you'll see the ocean from 101.

At the least you should try and work in a few stops, like Devil's Punchbowl, maybe Oregon Dunes Rec. Area, etc.

North until you get to Florence you will be next to the ocean about 90% of the time except for driving through towns.

Oh, well that makes more sense.

Lovely drive for much of the way. Will you have construction somewhere along 101 in July? Probably, but other than a few stretches it's probably not going to be busy enough to make a major dent in the overall drive time, especially if you aren't passing through on a weekend.

Also don't tend to be a lot of slides that time of year AFAIK unless we get an unusually rainy/stormy summer.
