I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that we can go camping. I can't find any place thats worth it and i really don't know if im looking in the right areas. Can someone help me please??

I am not a big camper, just to warn you ahead of time. However, I did go camping once at Guadalupe River State Park off Hwy 46 between Boerne and Bulverde. We had a great time. It's not a large park, but there is the river right there, and it's very pleasant. If you're a more experienced/more gung ho camper, it might not be your thing, but I had fun. Also, and this is slightly embarassing, it's close enough to civilization that when you forget something important (like, say TOILET PAPER and CHARCOAL) you can scurry off to HEB in Boerne and back before your friends notice. Heh.

We camped at Guadalupe State Park and came home early. We were near the bathrooms (which are REAL ones with showers!) and people kept driving to them all night so we heard cars all night. And it was loud - music, partying etc. I've also camped at Canyon Lake on Battle of the Flowers weekend and it was kindof rainy, so there were very few other people there. That one was really nice.

What type of camping do you like to do? There are lots of great state parks within a short drive of San Antonio, and most of our favorites in the state are close by. Recommendations depend a LOT on what you like to do, but some of our favorites are Ink's Lake, Lost Maples, and Colorado Bend.

We've noticed this a lot more at campgrounds near a lake - it seems boaters / lakers like a more "boisterous" evening, at the expense of their neighbors. I guess if everyone is being loud, they don't notice each other... but non-lake state parks are usually a lot more quiet and serene.

Again, it depends on what kind of camping you like to do and if you have kids. We have a travel trailer ( we are 40 & 50 with one teenager) and go as much as we can. We spend a lot of time at medina lake in the summer and the state parks in the winter. Both places have "quite time" after 10 pm and have never had a problem with noise. Always looking for new friends to go with.

You can do "primitive" camping at Enchanted Rock State Park North of Fredericksburg.

Guadalupe is supposed to have quiet time too but it didn't seem to be enforced! Now that you mention it, my parents camped at Medina Lake and enjoyed that. I think we need to start looking around and trying new places.

Last time we were there was Thanksgiving, maybe it's different in the winter months. Do you stay in the tent section or the w&e side? It's harder to hear the outside noise inside the trailer. Always looking for new places to go too.

We also have a travel trailer and love to camp. Just got back from our first trip to South Llano River State Park in Junction. The river was wonderful. It really depends on what you want to do, do you have kids??? We have fun no matter where we camp. Camping, like anything else, is what you make of it.
