Sold the house and the movers took our furniture a few weeks back. We moved into a furnished apartment while we closed out some personal and work related matters that required our attention, but on Friday, we packed up our remaining belongings, and spent 2 1/2 days on the road, and arrived in Ohio (our new home) yesterday afternoon. The cold winter weather was an immediate reminder of one of the things I will miss about SA. We moved to SA 3 years ago. Thanks to all of those on this forum who answered our questions before we moved here and after we arrived, and gave us the benefit of their advice. Wishing you a winter without a “polar event” and a fully functioning electrical grid! You have a pretty city. Yeah, it has some issues, but what place doesn’t. Enjoy your warm February while I am freezing my ass off.

Good luck in Ohio. Crappy winters but you'll be laughing at us come summertime and we're all melting down here.

If you're from the north to begin with, you'll be used to winter again by spring. I grew up in southern Indiana and spent 40 + years in the SA 'burbs, retiring back to the midwest a couple years ago. I'll gladly take the two months of 'real' winter here over the four or five months of 'real' summer in Texas.

I think it is just a matter of what you got used to while growing up. I would not want to live in the midwest myself. I actually find a lot of the midwest lifestyle rather dreary except for the scenery of the nature.

Yeah….I hear you about the weather. People told me before I moved to SA that it was hot. I was pretty dismissive thinking I’ve lived in hot places before. Well, they were right, I was wrong. It’s pretty cold here in Ohio right now, and it is definitely crossing my mind that I’d rather be walking the dog in SA right now before I go to bed every night. But those summers in SA were (to me) brutal and so long. On the whole, I agree with you….a couple of cold months is a fair price for a non-Texas summer.

Farewell.

That’s an honest take on the weather. People from other parts really underestimate just how crappy the weather is and how intense the summers are. It’s not just the intense heat and humidity but the length of it with no cooling off at night. A constant blast furnace 24/7 for 3/4 of the year really wears you down.

But, but Texas has four seasons!

They are Nearly Summer, Summer, Still Summer, and Christmas!

And I HATE it when I have to wear a short sleeved shirt on Christmas!
