Well, here 's so mething more specific. I hate enormously high property tax rates and making a personal check out to the assessor in order to pay them. I feel like I am contributing to corruption. Why can't we just make it paayable to the county like they do in other places? What is she doing with our money? It makes no sense.

I probably answered this post long ago, but since it's revived:

Love:
*the community I live in. Dynamic, interesting, diverse people who come together with a real sense of community.
*being so close to downtown I can walk, but living in a house with a yard for kids to play (tho I came here as a single person without kids, and loved this neighborhood then as much as I do now with kids)
*Excellent restaurant choices (non-chain) within a short walk from my house
*interesting and varied art, and while I'd like more music, there is enough to keep me occupied
*easy access to wonderful museums
*Riverwalk, particularly the new Museum Reach and Mission Reach
*Bike trails
*Symphony

Hate:
*traffic (have lived in LA and other congested cities and while this is better, it still sucks. Fortunately, I rarely have to deal with it)
*slow progress to get things done
*corrupt city development office
* this applies to all of Texas - the ridiculous education system so heavily focused on tests, as well as overly conservative efforts to ignore science

FTR - I've lived in 4 states in the US and 4 countries other than the US. There are some places I like more than SA, but as with every place I've lived, I embrace what's good, deal with what's bad, and enjoy the life I have.

Another thing that makes SA cool, this week and every year SA hosts TMEA. Texas Music Educators Association downtown. It is the largest music teacher convention in THE WORLD! This year they will be hosting the Vienna Boys Choir. Over 25,000 attendees, clinicians from all over the world. Music education in Texas is alive and well. Texas values music education more than many other states in the union.

Moderator cut: Orphaned

I think one of the things I dislike the most about San Antonio is the Sunday drivers! Not to mention the Monday, Tuesday, etc....

Moderator cut: see comment One things that Texas in general, and San Antonio as well does do well is support and encourage musicians. It's great to see the support and encouragement, specifically with TMEA.
