If your biggest concern is traffic, I'd suggest the north Peninsula, close to highways 280 or 101 (depending on exactly where you work)... South San Francisco, Daly City, Pacifica, San Bruno, and Millbrae, for example. Probably want to avoid Colma, even though it's really convenient - it's known as "cemetery town", and literally has more dead citizens than living (this is due to restrictions on burying people in the city of SF). Parts of San Bruno and Daly City are sketchy, but you'll know when you see those neighborhoods. Finally, don't live in the East or North Bay, since crossing those bridges at rush hour can be hellish! However, if you're near a BART station in the East Bay, that's a nice & quick way to commute.

P.S. As someone mentioned in your other thread, you might not want to call it Frisco. We usually just say "The City", but you can also call it "San Fran" or "SF". Just a tip!

Alameda, no question. There's a ferry. Alameda is a great town.

Is it really? I'm not being sarcastic by asking that, I'm honestly curious! My cousin lives there with his wife, and they seem to like it... but when I questioned moving there to my sister, she responded with "you don't want to live in Alameda." Do you think it's a good place for a 30 yr. old single (Jewish/caucasian) woman? I might be getting a job in the city, and would be looking to move somewhere that's outside of SF, but still convenient. I was thinking Pacifica, since I used to live there & loved it... but now you have me wondering if I should consider Alameda too!

How long does the ferry take, and do you know what type of schedule it has? My job requires a lot of nights & weekends, so it wouldn't work if they only run during standard business hours. I can look that up myself, I guess, but thought you'd have more insight. Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread, but I just wanted to ask.

Default 100th!

P.S. I just noticed that was my 100th post, so I'm now a "senior member." I just came to this site looking for relocation info, and never thought I'd end up making 100 posts! LOL.

I cannot imagine you finding any virulent anti-semitism in Alameda. It seemed to me to be about the mellowest, most sedate place imaginable. Perhaps, a little too mellow for some. I'm speaking of the southern end (the Park Street end) not the Webster Street end that's by the former military base. There are housing projects north of Webster Street that some might find a little scary. But I never did. I never had any trouble of any kind over there.

I don't live in the Bay Area anymore, haven't for about 4 years. So, my information may be out of date. Details on the ferry schedule you can get off the web.

If you are single and working in the city, I would suggest that you live in the city... or I guess in Berkeley... you can always take BART to the city... Alameda is a bit mellow for a single person...

A friend of mine lives in Walnut Creek (near John Muir Hospital) and he commutes to the city on a daily basis. Since he moved from Clayton, it's a much shorter drive there because Clayton is not anywhere near any freeways. One of the people who works with him actually moved right around the corner from him. She moved from the Pacific Heights area, and says it's quieter than the city and takes only a little longer.
