I am fed up all these big name banks, I wanna open account with credit union. Can someone suggest a respectable credit union whose purpose is not to trick the customer or rip you off? Thanks!

Provident CU is the gold standard here.. they have a checking account with a 2.26% APY interest rate, even now, and no monthly fees. (There are conditions to get the interest rate but the only penalty if you don't meet them is no interest that month..)

I've used Meriwest Credit Union for many years and don't have any complaints as far as customer service goes. I just don't like the two day check hold (even on payroll checks) on checks that are deposited through the ATM.

Star One Credit Union has 2 branches in San Jose and they are rated at 5 stars (out of 5) from Bauer Financial, an independent financial services rating firm. Here's their website:

Addison Avenue and First Tech CUs are merging. https://addisonavenue.com/locations/?action=findbranch

We have had an account at First Tech for years but if you don't need ATMs the Pentagon CU has great mortgage & CD rates.

Pentagon FCU has always had a good reputation with the military. Their credit cards used to be especially good in comparison with others. Believe their membership requirements are not confined to the military.

Go to Early Retirement & Financial Independence Community and search on 'credit union' and you will find many a thread about their offerings and membership hoops. I am not a military person so I signed up for the support association for $5. Again, no ATMs in my area but with that exception they are fantastic. The mortgage administration group is located in Eugene, Oregon so those folks are familiar with the west coast. I suspect they are leveraging the brain power of Eugene residents who can't bear to move after graduating from UofO.

For Patelco, are you going to their website? Link is below and should list all the Patelco branch locations:

Patelco | Locations

For Provident (not Providence), the branch locations are listed on this link:

Branch Locations: Provident Credit Union Branches

Not sure how you got Star One if you were on the Patelco website. You'll have to tell us how you were searching. Through Google perhaps? What keywords were you using?

I hope this information helps you and anyone else looking for it.
