Hello everyone,

I'm looking to enroll at UCSC Extension for a certificate program in Information Technology since I have no background in it. I was wondering are their programs reputable with employers and what's been people's experience with them? My intention is to complete that program and hopefully complete an internship with a company and get a job in that area.

I've never been to Santa Clara would I need a car to go around or can I rely on public transportation? Not having a car would be ideal considering that's one less thing to worry about and I'm not sure how long I would be there depending on the quality of the program.

The location where UCSC has their extension has no good public transit, so you probably would need a car. You can look up the VTA bus schedules and maps at vta.org, but I suspect you'll find the same thing. Besides the Caltrain, the only areas with ok transit (IMO) are El Camino Real, and the VTA light rail line by Levi's stadium.

What about the school? Any experiences from it?

You might consider a scooter, then it would be easy to park, too.

Although I lived in Santa Clara for 10 years, sorry but I don't know anything about the school.

I took some classes there many years ago. The teachers and curriculum are definitely leading edge, but I don't know how the local employers look at a certificate.

I took some IT courses many years ago and was satisfied. How does the price compare with doing a 2 year associates degree at a place like DeAnza College? Keep in mind you are competing with people who have 4 year degrees in programming or similar. If you are willing and able to do an internship after, that's a good idea.
