We're still paying our cleaners, the kids dance and gymnastics lessons, etc..... because we're fortunate enough to still have incomes, and we don't want local small businesses to go under and throw their employees out of work. And because we're decent human beings.
You had my attention until you said I wasn't a decent human being because I don't want to pay them for no work.

Our landscaper still comes, but he's a 1-man shop; except sometimes brings his teen.

We paid our cleaning company for the first missed week, and we may for the 2nd visit; but sadly my husband also lost his job and hiring is SLOW right now so it's terrifying. If we still had full income I'd pay them b/c I appreciate them and want them to be able to stay in business.

In the 'valley', if you want to keep your landscaper pay them even if they cannot provide service. Maybe get them to cut you a deal for service with payment in advance.

I agree with the concept of supporting your cleaning lady and landscape guy. If you could afford to pay for their services before, then you can afford to pay them now in this difficult time. It is the decent thing to do. Guess what their attitude towards you will be when they return to work

Now that's funny.
