Hello,
I own a home in San Jose and I will be out of country for some time(maybe a year or so more). How do I pay property taxes etc. on my house since I won't be receiving any mail. Is there a way I can get my mail redirected to a foreign country?

Have your property taxes + insurance impounded. We have that with our bank and the entire amount is auto debited from our checking account each month. Not only does this make it easier for us to manage logistically but we don't have to worry about our cash flow to cover large property tax bills 2x per year.

Here's the website for the County of Santa Clara Department of Taxes and Collections:

https://www.sccgov.org/sites/dtac/tax/Pages/tax.aspx

On that website, there is a paragraph about prepayment of property taxes that was for 2018/2019.

"Prepayment of 2018/2019 Property Tax

The County is not accepting any prepayment of property taxes for 2018/2019. The California Attorney General has previously issued a legal opinion that the tax collector is not authorized to accept a voluntary prepayment of property tax to be applied against a future potential tax liability. There is no statutory authority for pre-calculation, prepayment or pre-collection of property taxes, and the amount of tax to be paid in future years is not known until the tax roll is delivered to the collector, which has not occurred for the 2018/2019 tax year."

For additional information, please contact the Department of Tax and Collections at (408) 808-7900.

It seems that roadwarrior101's suggestion might be best, but I would call and talk to someone at the Dept. of T&C anyway to see if there are other options.

Online banking would work. Call some mail box stores & see if they will forward mail for you.

Really? It isn't rocket science : pay it on the county web site.

Go to : https://www.sccgov.org/sites/dtac/tax/Pages/tax.aspx

and click on the "view and pay property taxes" button.
