If there's a private well, the State Engineer's well permit may state that the well can only be used for household use; so if you're buying a country place with a well, that's something you might check out too.
We live in Valle del Sol backed up to an arroyo. My husband spotted two deer (?) this morning outside our coyote fence,ll.one had horns. What kind of deer could this have been?
Probably Mule deer, the most widely distributed and best known large mammal found in New Mexico. Here is a brochure from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish: http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/down...ghborhoods.pdf
You have brown recluse spiders in SF? Are you serious?
We had them in West Texas, but I have yet to see one in Alamogordo (knock on wood)...I would have thought that SF would be far too cold for brown recluse.
Brown recluse spider bit my Mom when I was growing up in Wyoming, which gets considerably colder than Santa Fe. Put Mom in the hospital but thank God she survived. Nasty buggers.
I frequently see coyotes in the middle of town, and once my workplace had a ring-tailed cat end up in the air vents (don't ask...it was a "quaint" old building). We caught and safely displaced a giant bull snake outside my workplace as well.
Click here for a shot of a mule deer up on Museum Hill in the fall. There were a herd of at least four deer hanging out on Camino Lejo, but this was the most handsome one and he posed for several pictures.
You can see pronghorn out near Eldorado, and if you're lucky you might see elk if you drive up to the Valles Caldera.
Anyone able to identify this snake I saw while walking today? It was very pretty, with an interesting pattern on its head. Probably about 15 inches long, did not see any rattle on its tail.
The coyote and bear problem is worse in suburban New Jersey than it is in Santa Fe, just to put things in perspective.
