In the local newspaper I get tired of hearing about all the new housing construction projects when not enough is being done with the road infrastructure in the area to keep up. It's not just the I-75 interchange either - there are other areas of congestion that will only keep getting worse with this push to build a new house on every inch of vacant land:

I agree. Although my opinion on this is not popular, the fact is that the Lakewood Ranch area in particular experiences very heavy traffic congestion and it will only get worse as they continue building more and more new home communities out east.

that's what happens when governments pretend to appease their constituents by keeping taxes unnecessarily low so they can posture about it.
There's a new push now to reduce developers fees, leaving the citizens to bear the brunt of infrastructure such as roads and utilities so they can benefit and build their homes without bothering about it.

At least they are not talking about making it a 'roundabout'. University Parkway is not a state designated road, so no state funding. It is the dividing line between Manatee and Sarasota Counties, which means funding from both counties. Good luck on that.
Any old timers around that remember when that road didn't exist? Just a one lane dirt road called 'County Line Rd'? Then became a one lane paved road when I-75 opened?

Some of us know all about the dirt road, and the cows that lined it, and some of us remember when Lockwood dead ended just past Tallevast, and you could fill up your gallon plastic milk jug with fresh squeezed OJ at the Troyers grove stand at the corner of Tuttle and Tallevast for 50 cents !

Others remember the only 'roundabout' was on St Armand's....well also at Siesta and Swift ?

Sarasota (county and city) has always had its head up its butt about forward thinking planning for roads and traffic, Manatee County has been far more proactive in the past 20 years...just ask Benderson.

Prime example : allowing residents of the Meadows to monkeywrench the four-laning of Honore from University to 17st. That would have helped a long time ago. Look how long the Cattlemen Rd extension was strung out ! and the Honore ext south past Fruitville ! it's been awful.

Anyone remember the awwful timing of lights on Tamiami south?

Remember how LONG it was before Sarasota re-vamped and widened CLARK ROAD ? How about the gateway to the city, Fruitville Road....and that's STILL a disaster through downtown.

Look at what Sarasota did to Lemon !

Nixed a second bridge to LBK as well.

Remember all the local bs lobbying and screwing up the roads around S Ospreu, S Orange and the fiasco around Hillview and the Hospital ?? And it still is a mess.

Remember the hand wringing about Bee Ridge Extended ? geezus The conflict on Beneva with the Forest Hill bs crowd and CC?

And Anna Maria, Longboat, Lido & Siesta Key: There's not much play in widening the island roads; of all four, LBK was the only one that left space to widen the lanes...kinda makes one wonder why there's only one gas station on the south end, doesn't it?!

Federal fund goes broke, forcing states to hit brakes on road projects

I wonder if this will effect the funding for the proposed I-75 interchange?

Listen, that really doesn't have any effect on what's going on here in Florida on the above referenced key islands as there's no room to widen anyhow...

Well Benderson wants to expand the University Town Center even further - at least they have some ideas to help alleviate the traffic congestion. Who knows how well the plans will work though.

University Town Center builder wants to expand commercial complex | HeraldTribune.com

From the article:

** If approved, the added stores and offices will mean more cars on already congested area roads. But instead of continually widening roads to accommodate traffic, the builder, Benderson Development, has proposed weaving different transportation alternatives into its grand plan for the area. **
