Tapas restaurant to open in Sarasota

https://www.businessobserverfl.com/n...n-in-sarasota/

A little taste of Spain has entered the restaurant scene in Sarasota.

Beso, a tapas restaurant featuring Mediterranean cuisine, is expected to open June 10 on Lemon Avenue in The Mark, a condo complex in the downtown area. The owners also run the nearby State Street Eating House + Cocktails. The kitchen is being headed by Sarasota native chef Amy Knox.

“Tapas isn’t only about taste,” says Chris Voelker, Beso’s owner, in a press release. “It’s communal; it’s passing dishes around the table and indulging in conversation with friends. It’s the social aspect along with the food that make up the overall experience.”

The restaurant is two stories with a mezzanine that overlooks the bar and seating area. The owners found inspiration for the layout while in Mexico and went tapas hunting in Spain, according to the release.

What are the best restaurants in Sarasota and Manatee? Our favorites of 2023, so far!

For the full list:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/tri...dbfa010f&ei=15

"While our balmy weather, world-famous beaches and no state income tax certainly contribute to our appeal, I firmly believe that the thriving restaurant scene is another compelling reason why people are flocking to Sarasota and Manatee counties.

For instance, seven establishments in Sarasota-Manatee landed on Yelp's recently published list of the Top 100 Florida Restaurants. Among them, Dry Dock Waterfront Grill on Longboat Key secured the No. 54 position and was also recently recognized as one of the 100 most romantic restaurants in the U.S. by OpenTable. It happens to be one of my personal favorites in the area, and Dry Dock appears on several of the best restaurant lists featured below.

Additionally, you'll find other essential local restaurants such as Indigenous, the downtown Sarasota business owned by Steve Phelps. He achieved the distinction of being a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: South award in both 2014 and 2015. Indigenous also appears on multiple best restaurants lists for Sarasota-Manatee featured below.

The lists encompass the best downtown and waterfront places, as well as favorites for foods such as burgers, pizza, and Mexican cuisine. These are lists that we have published in 2023. Bookmark this page and return in upcoming weeks for more lists about the region's best restaurants and what to eat and drink when you get there."

Anna Maria Oyster Bar opens first new restaurant in 20 years. Another is on the way

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/smal...f8d814a0&ei=20

Jun. 12—UNIVERSITY PARK — John and Amanda Horne have opened their fifth Anna Maria Oyster Bar restaurant in the Square at University Town Center, 5405 University Parkway, #110.

The new restaurant is their first in the thriving University Park area.

John Horne announced plans to take over the Newk's Eatery space a year ago after negotiating a lease with Benderson Development.

"There is quite a bit of remodeling to do there. Newk's was counter service with no bar," Horne previously said.

The AMOB restaurants are known for their fun, family atmosphere, fresh fish, steaks and wings, along with oysters, burgers and margaritas.

AMOB marked the new restaurant's opening Friday evening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, showcasing the raw bar, outdoor patio and local murals.

Until Friday night, it had been 20 years since a new Anna Maria Oyster Bar restaurant opened.

The Hornes have a sixth restaurant in the works for North Port.

Oysters Rock Hospitality, the parent company of Anna Maria Oyster Bar and Café L'Europe, announced in October the purchase of property at 14132 Tamiami Trail in North Port.

"Down at the 'First One South of the Border,' the Anna Maria Oyster Bar in North Port should be open to serve you sometime this September," John Horne said in a recent newsletter.

List of AMOB locations

— Landside, 6906 14th St. W., Bradenton

— Ellenton, 1525 51st Ave. E., Ellenton

— Pier, Bridge Street Pier, Bradenton Beach

— UTC, 5405 University Parkway, Unit 110, Bradenton

— North Port, 14132 Tamiami Trail, North Port

Ticket Editor: Sarasota’s best new restaurant is this downtown tropical bar

For the full review:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/tri...c1d32e41&ei=21

"Sarasota and Manatee counties have witnessed a multitude of exciting restaurant openings as we approach the midpoint of 2023. Among them, my personal favorite is a tropical bar by the same people behind one of the 10 best restaurants in downtown Sarasota.

Opened in April, Bar Hana is the sister business of Kojo, offering an upscale drinking and dining experience unlike anything else in the area. Start with their Instagrammable cocktails, served in a delightful collection of fun and vintage tiki glassware, but be sure not to overlook the food. Bar Hana's menu features some of the most creative and satisfying dishes I've tasted this year — dishes that may only be rivaled by the offerings of their other sister business, Palm Avenue Deli, when it opens next door."

This downtown Bradenton cafe has new French owners who are trained crepe masters

For the full review:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddri...c1d32e41&ei=44

"Sweet Deli Cafe in downtown Bradenton has new owners and a new house specialty — crepes.

Frederique Guette and her husband, Frederic Guette, took over Sweet Deli Cafe, 531 13th St. W., in March.

While they kept the existing menu, including all-day breakfasts (avocado toast, egg and cheese sandwiches, smoked salmon, waffles and more), sandwiches, paninis, soups, desserts and hot and cold drinks, they added an extensive crepe menu.

Guests can choose from a variety of savory crepes, made from buckwheat flour, or sweet crepes, made from regular wheat flour.

Among the savory crepe options are the Chef's Favorite (crispy bacon, tomatoes, onion and Swiss cheese) for $10.99, the Belle Complete (ham, egg and Swiss cheese) for $8.99, the Striking Viking (smoked salmon, dill lemon cream sauce and spinach) for $11.99, and more."

Anna Maria Island's Topsail Steamer offers local 'country boil' seafood -- with a twist

For the full review:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/tri...79c3b35f&ei=27

Jun. 19—HOLMES BEACH — Topsail Steamer opened its first Florida store in April at 5321 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach.

It's not a seafood restaurant but rather a place where customers pick out the seafood pot they want and take it home to steam and eat.

Whenever possible, the seafood is locally sourced. Notable exceptions at the Anna Maria Island store are coldwater lobster tails and snow crab legs, said manager Tiffany Kaminski, a Bradenton native.

Topsail Steamer offers seven signature buckets — actually 14 if you break out the Low Tider and High Tider buckets.

For instance, the Low Country Shrimp bucket costs $59 for the Low Tider, while the High Tider is $91. The difference is more peel-and-eat shrimp and Andouille sausage in one than the other.

Other choices include The Crabby Jimbo (shrimp and snowcrab), the Topsail Clam Bake (littleneck clams, shrimp and Kielbasa), The Full Steamer (shrimp, snow crab, Andouille sausage and littleneck clams), The Captain Pierce (shrimp, crab, large sea scallops, Andouille sausage and littleneck clams), the Wrightsville (shrimp, crabs scallops, Andouille and clams) and The Miss Emily II (shrimp, crab and Andouille, plus two lobster tails).

All buckets include sweet corn, red bliss potatoes, cocktail sauce, butter, seasoning, the pot for cooking and paper for the table.

Customers can build their own bucket as well.

The Holmes Beach store is open noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
