Here's a list of fun things I've found that are going on in the Sarasota - Bradenton - Venice area this weekend.
FEBRUARY 16 - MARCH 10
Circus Sarasota -- circus shows featuring top US & European performers. Big Top Tent, Nathan Benderson Park on Regatta island. More info at:

FEBRUARY 29 - MARCH 10
FL Strawberry Festival at Plant City -- very popular annual event with concerts, carnival rides, livestock, games, activities and lots of strawberries, including strawberry pizza. Entertainers this year include Beach Boys, Oak Ridge Boys, ZZ Top, Black Eyed Peas. Tickets $5/children, $15/adults.
FRIDAY
Movie in the Park -- free movie at Waterside Park in Lakewood Ranch, 6 - 9 pm.
Family Movie Night -- The Oval on the Bay, Sarasota bay front park, 7 - 8 pm, free. "The Princess and the Frog."
The Life & Times of the Temptations (musical) -- Van Wezel, 7:30 pm. Ticket info at

Osfest Block Party -- bands, DJs, food & drink vendors, kids activities. 5 pm - midnight in front of the Gator Club in Sarasota, Main & Lemon. Tickets $25/person & up.
Free Music Friday Night Concert -- Venice's Centennial Park at the gazebo, 7 - 9 pm, bring lawn chairs.
Moon Over Myakka Fundraising Concert -- gates open 5 pm, concert 7 - 11 pm, $25/person, bring lawn chairs & your own picnic basket of food. 13208 State Rd 72.
FRIDAY - SATURDAY
Venice Symphony honors Alan Menken (composer for several Disney movies). Venice Performing Arts Center. Shows Fri 7:30 pm, Sat 3:30 & 7:30 pm.
Street Car Takeover -- drag racing at Bradenton Motorsports Park, 21000 State Rd 64.
FRIDAY - SUNDAY
Sarasota Invitational Regatta -- rowing races on Nathan Benderson Park lake, 8 am - 5 pm, over 800 boats participating.
Italian Feast & Carnival -- Venice's airport midway, lots of food, live music, carnival rides & activities. Thur & Fri starts at 4 pm, Sat & Sun starts at noon. Parking $10, Walk Ins $5.
SATURDAY
Sarasota Farmers Market -- downtown at Lemon & Main, 7 am - 1 pm.
Central Sarasota Farmers Market -- corner Proctor & Beneva, 8 am - 1 pm.
Bradenton Farmers Market -- on Old Main Street (400 12th St W), 9 am - 2 pm.
Venice Farmers Market -- at the City Hall, 401 W Venice Ave, 8 am - 1 pm.
Summer Hours: 8 am - noon.
Toothpick Bridge Challenge -- teams of school students compete at building bridges from toothpicks, UTC Mall by Macy's, 9 am - 1 pm.
Baseball:
Orioles vs Red Sox -- Ed Smith Stadium, Sarasota, 1:05 pm.
Pirates vs Twins -- Hammond Stadium in Ft. Myers, 1:05 pm.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY
Sarasota Antiques Show -- Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 10 am - 4 pm, $8/adult.
Longboat Key Festival of the Arts -- various artisans displaying items for sale, Longboat Key Town Center Green (by Publix), 10 am - 5 pm.
Sarasota Festival of the Arts -- local and national artisans, J D Hamel Park, 10 am - 5 pm.
SUNDAY
Lakewood Ranch Farmers Market -- Waterside Place, 10 am - 2 pm.
The Meadows Farmers Market -- At the Meadows shopping village off Honore, 10 am - 2 pm.
Wellen Park Farmers Market -- 9 am - 1 pm.
Polo at Lakewood Ranch -- gates open 10 am, starts at 1 pm, tickets $15 & up. Polo ticket and other info at:

The Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Show -- free show, starts 2 pm, 1602 Ken Thompson Pkwy by Mote
First show of the new season!
Sundays at the Bay -- free performance by various artists at The Oval on the Bay, 4 - 5:30 pm.
Siesta Key Beach Drum Circle -- free event, people gather about an hour before sunset.
Chili Cook Off -- fundraiser for Sarasota Humane Society. Live music, pet adoptions. 2 - 6 pm, 2058 Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota. Chili entry fee $10, $5/person to sample chili & vote. Tasting starts at 3 pm.
Baseball
Braves vs Red Sox -- CoolToday Park, Wellen Park, 1:05 pm.
Pirates vs Orioles -- LECOM Park, Bradenton, 1:05 pm.
