Long story short- Savannah wants a skyline...
Not everyone wants a skyline. Some people like small to midsize city.

Georgia has plenty of those.
I do know that many that live in Savannah aren't too happy about this update

I want to celebrate “the oldness” of Savannah. Patch up the old lady, so she keeps going, a lot like myself. If you want a modern city, just go somewhere else. Spend money on the old infrastructure, but keep the buildings. I heard that the building that houses Chart House is the oldest brick and mortar building in GA.

1733 is really to be honored in this new country.

From what I read
Savannah leaders have no plans to destroy the historic district
They want to build closer to the new arena
They also showed plans of building on Hutchinson Island
Anything Else is a "SCAD" thing

Hyundai is in talks to build an electric vehicle factory in Bryan County with plans to hire 8,500. Not holding my breath given Savannah's luck with mega sites, but the area is more attractive than it was 20 years ago with Daimler Chrysler.

Supposedly Hyundai will make the announcement in Korea while Mr. Biden visits there. Breath held.

This plant, they say, will employ 8,100 with the potential to add thousands more jobs to support this very plant.

Folks, this is the big fish in the small pond and yet it’s one of many projects happening around our local region.

Savannah has been on fire and yet more wood and gasoline has been added. Savannah is going in the direction of a big city. All these businesses need workers and our unemployment rate is already 3.2% (pretty darn low) so these people will come from somewhere.

With the announcement, it is going to be an interesting job market. Even at only 2500 versus the 8100, it’s going to be difficult for smaller businesses to maintain employees. Amazon has around 1200 to hire in the next few months as well. Hyundai will bring in upper management which will make Savannah Quarters (gated part) and Downtown Savannah even hotter for larger homes. Apartments will continue to blow up and New Hampstead should see a ton of those looking to be built. In looking at the Kia Plant in West Point, there wasn’t much added right by the plant. The growth is in town, in LaGrange area and some residential in the county, the Kia exit didn’t get much. I think the same will happen here. Pembroke, 80/280, Bloomingdale exit/New Hempstead and Pooler Parkway exit will fill up. Not much west of 280 and Old River Road may get a few warehouses. It will be interesting to see.
