Just mind numbing! You see this in movies and then reality hits!

Kind of a weird coincidence, but this meteor was the biggest object to strike Earth since 1908 ... the same year as the Tunguska event, a massive explosion of debated origin also in central Russia. Strange, but that's the first place my mind went.

So apparently people have cameras running continuously on the cars recording all day? No one knew about this ahead of time right?

Looks like 15 meters across, 40 tons. Biggest object to strike earth in more than a century.
Estimates have apparently risen. According to NASA, the size is thought to be about 55 feet (17 meters) wide and a mass of about 10,000 tons before it entered the atmosphere. The energy released from the explosion is thought to be equal to about 500 kilotons of TNT, which is about 30 times more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb.

An area to the west is being searched where a frozen lake is showing a 20 foot diameter hole in the ice. Small fragments (about a half-inch in diameter) have been recovered, but no sign of anything larger. A much larger part might be in the lake.
