I remember when Sony and Panasonic made the news every year on new TVs and computers and other electronics and every year in Vegas at CES Sony and Panasonic had booths showing new TVs and new laptops the Sony Vaio laptops where ahead of its time.

Now you don’t hear much from Sony or Panasonic it is now LG and Samsung.

What happen to Sony and Panasonic?

As with many tech companies, what you see in the consumer and retail (and thus advertised to that audience) is often just a part of the total. A good example, albeit not in tech, is McDonalds. We all know them as a large fast food chain. However, they operate and generate revenue much like a real estate company.

Sony still has a decent marketshare of cameras. They surpassed Nikon a few years ago and still in 2nd behind Canon. A large part of their revenue is derived from Gaming.

Panasonic also still in the imaging and camera business as well.

I still have Sony headphones, CD players, and a walkman radio. They made some amazing products.

^ This.

Their gaming, music, movie/picture segments accounts for almost 50% of their business.

Another example is Amazon. While the bulk of their revenue is still from online retail. The vast majority of their profit is from their Cloud services.

I have a number of Sony products. When I wanted an ATSC 3.0 compatible television recently, Sony was the obvious choice, as they were the only one to offer this feature at a reasonable price.

Our 50" TV is a Panasonic, and it's been going strong for almost 8 hears now. They have since expanded into other areas, like digital cameras and video camera equipment, even bathroom fans!

Panasonic exhaust fans are of great quality. Widely used in new construction and retrofits throughs the interior of Alaska. They use "squirrel cage" type of fan blades instead of the typical and loud floor propeller blade.
